When is it a Good Time to Go to the Emergency Room?

There have been many reports over the last few years about the overuse of emergency rooms, and this has led some people to wonder when it's a idea to go to the ER. It turns out that there are indeed some things that are best handled by immediately seeking emergency services. These conditions include:

Severe Injuries

If someone is bleeding profusely, it's a sure sign that it's a good idea to take the person to the ER to make sure that he or she doesn't bleed to death. If transportation isn't possible, call 911 for an ambulance right away.

Sometimes, the severity of an injury isn't obvious. This is especially true of puncture wounds and some bullet wounds. To be on the safe side, these wounds should be considered emergencies if they affect the torso or head. Hidden internal bleeding could be taking place even if there isn't a drop of blood visible from the outside.

Any wound that involves a foreign object bigger than a splinter stabbing into the body is also an emergency Fulton County. Such items can be knives, but more often, they're random things like nails from nail guns, shards of glass, or any number of things that people have accidents with. These things should always be removed by doctors because they may be penetrating arteries.

If someone feels chest pain or other signs of a heart attack, 911 should be called right away. The problem may turn out to be something else, but since untreated heart attacks are often fatal, it's best to be safe. It's important to remember that most heart attacks don't work like in the movies. Be on the lookout for the less-dramatic symptoms like mysterious pain in the left arm and shortness of breath.
Extreme Pain
Extreme pain popping up anywhere in the body with no obvious explanation is a sign of a serious problem. It can be caused by emergencies like appendicitis, blocked bile ducts, infections, and more. It's worth it to go to the ER to find out what's wrong and get it taken care of right away.

These are some of the things that are still worth going to the emergency room for. Make sure to do so if they arise - it can mean the difference between life and death.
